How we provide sponsorship
In the US and Canada, we provide the following types of Grants
Educational Grants
Funding or in-kind product support to reduce the cost to present bona fide, independent continuing medical educational courses, events, and meetings.
Educational grants may be provided to:
- Non-profit and/or charitable organizations
- Medical institutions
- Accredited educational program vendors
- Medical foundations
- Professional societies
Educational grants are not provided to individual HCPs or as a price concession, reward to a favored customer or as an inducement to recommend, prescribe or purchase Company products or services.
Monetary Donation Grant
Financial support provided to a non-profit or charitable organization to further the legitimate and documented objectives of the organization, and to support genuine fundraising drives for projects undertaken by the organization.
Product Donation Grant
In-kind product support provided to a non-profit or charitable organization to further the legitimate and documented mission of the organization including medical missions to treat underprivileged patients throughout the globe. Humanitarian product donation requests to support medical missions should be submitted 12 (twelve) months prior to the mission.

Corporate Sponsorships
Funding or in-kind support in exchange for advertising or promotional opportunities at third-party meetings and educational programs. Corporate sponsorships may also include requests where advertising, exhibit and/or booth fees are included as part of a sponsorship package that includes funding to support activities beyond pure advertising.
Corporate Sponsorship may be provided to:
- Non-profit and/or charitable organizations
- Medical institutions
- Accredited educational program vendors
- Medical foundations
- Professional societies
Third-Party Meeting Planners on behalf of any of the above entities
Corporate Sponsorships are not provided to individual HCPs or as a price concession, reward to a favored customer or as an inducement to recommend, prescribe or purchase Company products or services.

Requests should be in written and include the following:
- A Letter of Request on the organization’s letterhead with a contact’s name, number, and email address.
- A detailed description of the requested support including:
- Purpose of the requested funding, or
- How the in-kind support is to be utilized
- Confirmation of tax-exempt/non-profit status, if applicable
- If funding is requested, a copy of the event budget
- For in-kind support requests:
- A list of all products and/or other goods to be provided
- Confirmation the organization/institution is not currently in a tender process (or purchasing discussion) with Smith+Nephew.
- For US Organizations: Please provide a copy of organization’s W-9 form
- For European Organizations: Please provide your VAT ID Number if applicable. If you do not have a VAT ID Number, please provide your Local Registration ID Number.
In additional Educational Grant Requests should the following:

- Copy of the Sponsorship Prospectus or a List of the Sponsorship Levels
